It can be hard to get started writing or recording your life story. A list of questions can be a good trigger to start remembering your stories.

Whatever medium you are comfortable with--video, written or audio recording, walking through a list of life story questions is useful in helping you organize your story. The attached PDF file contains a list of questions that I use with my clients.

After looking at the list, you may have the impression that writing or telling your story is "too big". In fact, most people skip a lot of the questions, but there will likely be a few that trigger something that you really want to share. For my interviews, I use the list of questions selectively. I tend to use more generic questions like, "Tell me what you remember about your paternal grandmother." The list keeps evolving as I find which questions work best.
